KOLKATA: India joined the growing popularity of five-a-side football with the launch of Futsal Feriendzy here on Tuesday. Futsal is FIFA’s official indoor football game and is a scaled down version of the popular outdoor football.

The inaugural Futsal tournament will be held in five cities across the country, Bangalore, Mumbai, Jaipur, Kochi and Kolkata. This tournament, to be organised by McDowell’s Celebration, would be following the international Futsal guidelines.

The tournament proper will be getting underway at Kochi and Jaipur simultaneously on November 23, while the final will be held here on December 24.
There will be 32 teams playing in each centre and the five best teams from each venue will be playing one round to decide the one team that will take on Mohun Bagan in the final. — Principal Correspondent
