Eight teams will take part in the tournament including the host and other teams from Thailand, Indonesia, Myanmar, the Philippines, East Timor, Malaysia and Brunei.

Vietnam will be in group B and compete against the Philippines, East Timor and Brunei while Thailand, the favorites, will play in group A with Malaysia, Indonesia and Myanmar.

The teams will play in a round robin format with the top two teams in each group reaching the semi finals. The winners of these matches will play in the final.

The Vietnamese head coach Piemkum Pattaya began training his squad at the Thanh Long sports centre in Ho Chi Minh City on April 15.

After training, they will fly to Bangkok, Thailand to play four friendly matches over 10 days to reach match fitness.

Vietnam will kick off against the Philippines at the Phu Tho sports complex on June 8.
